Woodbridge Condo Fire Contained by Sprinklers
A Woodbridge condo fire broke out at a building on Mason Creek Circle around 4 p.m. Fire crews arrived to find flames climbing from the ground to the attic of a double-stacked townhome.
Fortunately, the exterior sprinkler system was activated before firefighters arrived. The sprinklers helped control the fire’s spread and minimized damage.
Firefighters were able to stop the flames from reaching the interior of the homes. No one was injured during the incident.
The fire displaced three adults and one child. A Prince William County Building Official deemed two units unsafe to live in after the fire. The Red Cross stepped in to help the displaced residents.
Investigators found the cause was an electrical malfunction in the home’s rear electrical meter. Officials said this fire highlights the importance of modern sprinkler systems in multifamily buildings.
Sprinklers helped limit property damage, improve safety, and reduce the effort needed to fight the fire.
