Neighbors in a luxury subdivision have filed an ethics complaint against Brentwood Mayor Mark Gorman. The complaint alleges conflicts of interest and improper conduct related to the Governor’s Club HOA. Officials say the issue will not be addressed until after the upcoming election.
Ethics Complaint Against Brentwood Mayor Focuses on Business Dealings
The ethics complaint against the Brentwood mayor centers on his past role with the Governor’s Club subdivision. The luxury community includes high-value homes and a golf course. Residents say the property’s condition reflects years of neglect.
Their attorney submitted a nine-page complaint outlining alleged violations of city ethics rules. The complaint claims Mayor Gorman used his position to benefit his family financially. His wife signed a management contract in 2022 through their company, AtoZ.
The contract aimed to resolve ongoing issues with stormwater violations and deteriorating community features. The association claims Gorman, a city commissioner at the time, helped secure the deal.
Meeting records show Gorman regularly attended HOA board meetings on behalf of AtoZ Properties. Critics say this shows an active role that may conflict with his public duties.
The complaint accuses Gorman of failing to disclose these ties during city commission discussions. It questions whether public records can prove transparency in these transactions.
Gorman Responds to Allegations
Gorman denies the accusations and says they are politically driven. He insists he had no involvement in securing the contract. He also said his wife manages a team and that he was only a point of contact.
He called the complaint a political attack timed to influence the election. He denied making any promises to fix the subdivision’s problems.
Dispute Includes Attacks on Opposing Parties
While defending himself, Gorman has also raised ethics concerns about Greg Cantrell, the HOA board president. He shared documents showing Cantrell’s 1997 federal conviction for mail fraud.
Cantrell confirmed the conviction and said he rebuilt his life and career. He dismissed Gorman’s claims as a distraction from the real issue.
Despite the ongoing ethics complaint against the Brentwood mayor, the HOA board says it will wait until after the election to act.
