Support is growing for the families as donations for Haymarket explosion on Monday night continue to pour in. The Piedmont Homeowners Association is grateful for the kindness shown since the tragic event.
Donations for Haymarket Explosion Accepted at Local Drop-Off
A donation drop-off point has been set up at the Piedmont Club’s library. Since Tuesday night, the community has generously left bags filled with clothes and toys. The HOA is also working on creating two platforms for monetary donations.
The explosion, caused by a gas leak, displaced four adults and two children renting a home on Colby Hunt Court. Prince William County fire officials confirmed that a private contractor damaged a two-inch gas line while working to replace a water line. The leak led to a gas build-up, which ignited and caused the explosion.
Washington Gas was called for assistance at 4:26 p.m. The area was evacuated before the blast at 5:30 p.m. Thankfully, no one was hurt, but nearby homes remained without gas.
Officials are investigating the cause, and the fire chief stated that the damage repairs are a civil matter between the responsible party, homeowners, and tenants. Three pets from the home are still missing.
