Two Pennsylvania residents have filed a lawsuit alleging they encountered bed bugs in a rental during their vacation.
Bed Bugs in Rental: Allegations of Negligence and Infestation
The lawsuit, filed on January 14, claims Amanda and Philip Wyant, along with a minor, suffered bed bug bites during an August 3 to 9 stay at a Sea Castle Condos rental in North Myrtle Beach.
According to the suit, bed bugs were found in mattresses, bedding, and carpets, leading to bites while the family slept. The plaintiffs reported the infestation to management during their stay.
The complaint alleges the property owner and several companies failed to maintain the rental unit, exposing guests to harmful conditions. The plaintiffs claim they endured physical pain, emotional distress, and financial losses, including medical expenses and lost wages. Future psychological care is also anticipated.
The defendants include the property owner, a West Virginia resident, and three companies linked to the property’s operation or management. Their specific responsibilities and connections to the rental remain under scrutiny.
The case highlights ongoing concerns about proper inspection and maintenance of vacation rentals, especially regarding bed bug infestations.
