A sinkhole in Mooresville is the source of distress and frustration for residents of a local community. Residents fear that the builder is dodging concerns and opting for temporary fixes. This would ultimately cause the burden and cost of a permanent fix to fall on the residents’ shoulders once the HOA transitions.
Up in Arms Over a Sinkhole in Mooresville
Reid’s Cove Community residents are clamoring for answers to a sinkhole in Mooresville. The residents feel apprehensive about the safety hazard and assert that the builder, Taylor Morrison Homes, has not adequately addressed the issue.
Kelli Carter, a resident, explained that erosion concerns existed since they moved into the neighborhood in December 2022. Despite assurances from Taylor Morrison Homes, the issue persisted and worsened. Attempts to rectify the problem, such as filling holes and adding drains, seemed insufficient. This eventually led to the emergence of a large hole in the hill.
Carter and fellow neighbors contacted Taylor Morrison Homes and the HOA management group Evergreen Lifestyles Management. However, their efforts seemed temporary. The residents worried that the builder might address the sinkhole with short-term solutions until the neighborhood transitions to homeowner association (HOA) control. This will leave the community to deal with a potentially expensive resolution.
Safety a Primary Concern, Among Others
Safety is a main worry for residents, particularly due to children playing near the sinkhole. The lack of a protective fence adds to the danger, as noted by neighbor David Grose. The issue also impacts surrounding areas, weakens sidewalks and roads, and causes flooding in nearby yards.
The neighbors urgently call for Taylor Morrison Homes to take prompt and effective action. They emphasize the need for accountability and transparent communication regarding the steps to address the problem.
In response, Taylor Morrison Homes released a statement to WBTVÂ outlining their commitment to resolving the erosion issue. They detailed a comprehensive assessment plan involving environmental, design, and geotechnical engineers in collaboration with the town of Mooresville and Iredell County. Despite delays due to recent heavy rainfall, the company assured homeowners of their dedication to a permanent solution. As a precaution, a temporary construction fence is being installed during repairs. A permanent fence to ensure long-term stability will follow soon after.
