The elevator at a senior living HOA in West Columbia has been busted for several months. According to the HOA, repairing the unit will take $120K.
Senior Living HOA
The Hulon Greene Homeowners Association is located in West Columbia. The building’s single elevator has been broken for months. According to the homeowners association, the elevator failed in November 2023. However, the community residents claim the elevator has been busted since September 2023.
Property residents were allowed to relocate during the repair or remain in their residence and have regular services provided as needed. Affected residents signed statements saying they did not want to relocate. However, the stairs up the senior living HOA building were described as “treacherous.”
Diane Martray, a seven-year resident on the third floor, says she has had enough and that something needs to be done. According to her, the lady on the second floor cannot get out of her unit at all. She said she wanted fresh air and sun, which made Martray feel bad for her.
Safety Violation
The West Columbia Fire Department issued a ticket to the association for the safety violation. Meanwhile, the HOA has yet to respond to inquiries about how many residents refused to relocate, if the association covered all associated costs, and where they were relocated. According to the association, the repairs are ongoing.
State records show that Dover is the company responsible for repairing the elevator. They also show that the building elevator was due for an inspection in January. The HOA released a statement saying that the condominium board has evaluated the situation with the Hulon Greene Board of Directors. They have assumed that, after multiple failed repair attempts, a $120,000 modernization of the unit will fix the problem.
