Horry County roads in the Island Green community are causing frustration among residents due to poor maintenance and growing safety concerns. Homeowners have complained about potholes, traffic issues, and inadequate mail services, urging for improvements.
Horry County Roads in Island Green Plagued by Potholes
Residents in Island Green are frustrated by the poor condition of Horry County roads throughout their neighborhood. Numerous potholes pose safety risks, with some so large that homeowners worry about potential tire damage. Despite reaching out to 27 different HOAs, residents say the road issues remain unresolved.
Traffic problems add to the frustration. The community’s one-way exit and entrance create congestion, particularly as new homes continue to be built. Residents fear that the traffic bottleneck could hinder emergency vehicles during a crisis. They have repeatedly asked for a second exit or entrance, but no changes have been made.
Mailbox Issues Add to Horry County Roads Frustration
Homeowners in Fairway Village face additional challenges beyond the poor condition of Horry County roads. Residents must purchase a $75 mailbox at a neighborhood church and pay $55 annually for mail delivery. This requirement confuses new residents, who expected standard community mailboxes. It also complicates address verification and mail delivery.
The HOA stated that paying for a mailbox is optional, and residents can choose to get a PO box instead. The community did not install cluster mailboxes due to high costs and financial constraints when the HOA took over management.
Abandoned Clubhouse Raises Safety Concerns
Adding to the list of grievances, residents are concerned about the old abandoned clubhouse. Once a lively social hub, it now sits neglected, attracting homeless individuals and illegal activity. A large mound of dirt left from previous development blocks part of the road, adding to the neighborhood’s disrepair.
Residents feel the HOA has not adequately addressed these issues, causing worry about safety and property values.
Hope for Change Amid Ongoing Challenges
Despite the ongoing challenges with Horry County roads and other community concerns, Island Green residents remain hopeful for improvements. They want safer roads, better traffic flow, reliable mail services, and action on the abandoned clubhouse.
The HOA acknowledged the problems but emphasized they are only one of several management groups within Island Green. They also mentioned financial limitations as a barrier to implementing some of the requested changes.
While residents hope for positive changes, they remain concerned about the pace of progress and the impact on their community’s quality of life.
