A Fairlington Villages fire damaged the condominium association’s main office on Wednesday afternoon. Fire crews responded quickly and contained the fire, which disrupted nearby school operations and prompted an emergency cleanup.
Fairlington Villages Fire Disrupts Operations and Damages Property
The Fairlington Villages fire began around 2 p.m. at the condo association office on South Abingdon Street. Firefighters arrived within minutes of the call.
Crews reported heavy smoke and visible flames coming from the structure. Early findings indicate the fire started in the attached garage. Flames spread to the attic and roof before being brought under control. Firefighters worked to check for hot spots after putting out the main fire.
At least one person received medical attention for smoke inhalation. No major injuries were reported at the scene. The fire temporarily delayed the dismissal of students at nearby Abingdon Elementary School. Officials later resumed school operations.
Fairlington Villages oversees about 1,700 townhomes and apartments across Arlington and Alexandria. The community spans 93 acres and includes pools and sport courts. By 3 p.m., the Fairlington Villages fire was mostly out. Crews continued to monitor the site for lingering smoke or heat.
On social media, the association said the fire was extinguished and investigators were still on scene. Cleanup efforts began that evening. Contractors were scheduled to cover the roof and begin interior remediation that same night. Temporary repairs were set to move quickly.
Staff planned to return to the building the next morning to assess smoke and water damage and check systems. Updates on operations were expected soon.
