Crews have started Kingfisher Inn repairs over a year after it closed due to structural concerns. The board chose restoration despite past opposition from some owners. The Inn remains closed to guests and owners for now.
Kingfisher Inn Repairs Move Forward Despite Controversy
Kingfisher Inn repairs are now underway at Garden City Beach. Workers and staff are on-site daily for construction and maintenance.
The board had earlier announced plans to reopen by March. That decision opposed a vote from some timeshare and condo owners who wanted to demolish and sell the property.
According to board statements, the damage does not meet the bylaw threshold for demolition. They said repairs are more financially justified than rebuilding.
A structural engineer originally recommended further foundation testing due to cracks and instability. The board dismissed that engineer and hired another firm.
The new out-of-state firm said the building was safe. Their report claimed there was no immediate risk of collapse.
Based on this report, Horry County lifted the evacuation order in October 2024.
As of now, Kingfisher Inn has not reopened to any guests or owners. Resort Management Group has not provided a new update.
