The city of Pelham has launched a new HOA collaboration network to boost neighborhood connections and citywide engagement. The initiative kicked off in May with over 30 attendees from 13 communities. The goal is to foster stronger communication between residents and city officials, regardless of homeowners’ association (HOA) status.
HOA Collaboration Network Aims to Unite Pelham Neighborhoods
Pelham’s HOA collaboration network encourages ongoing communication among community leaders, city staff, and residents across all neighborhoods. City Manager Gretchen DiFante said the network helps build stronger neighborhoods and supports Pelham’s overall growth.
Neighborhoods with formal Homeowners’ Associations (HOAs), informal groups, or no organized associations are all welcome to participate in the new effort. The network enables city leaders to understand resident needs and tailor support more effectively accordingly.
The first meeting featured roundtable discussions where volunteer leaders shared their top concerns and challenges. Topics included resident engagement, rule enforcement, and navigating city services.
The gathering also featured a presentation by Julia McKay, head of Alabama’s Community Associations Institute. Through Pelham’s new membership in CAI, local leaders can now access free board training and professional resources.
CAI Offers Education and Support
McKay explained that CAI promotes strong governance and better living conditions for residents in community associations. Its training tools aim to help leaders become more effective and professional in managing neighborhoods.
She expressed excitement about partnering with Pelham and emphasized the value of education in building better communities. Local leaders responded positively to the session and showed strong interest in future training.
Although initially planned as a quarterly event, the HOA collaboration network will now meet on a monthly basis. Attendees expressed enthusiasm about learning from one another and outside experts.
DiFante emphasized that the group is resident-led and will evolve based on community needs. She said strong neighborhoods play a key role in creating a thriving city.
How to Get Involved in Pelham’s Network
Pelham encourages all neighborhoods to join the HOA collaboration network. The city hopes more communities will participate and share their experiences.
Residents interested in joining can contact the city manager’s office for more information. The network will continue building momentum in the coming months.
